Marseille Soap
How to Spot Real Savon de Marseille
"Savon de Marseille" isn’t a protected label. That means anyone can use the name, even if the soap isn’t made in Marseille. In fact, many colorful soaps sold online are mass-produced elsewhere. To make sure you're buying the real thing, here’s what to look for:
- Ingredients: Only three—vegetable oils (like olive), lye, and salt water. No additives, perfumes, or chemicals.
- Color & Shape: Authentic soap comes in olive green, beige, or brown—never bright colors. It's usually a simple cube or bar.
- Stamp: Look for “72% HUILE” stamped on the soap. Some may also carry the new “Savon de Marseille” logo from the four traditional makers.
- Scent: Real soap smells mild—mostly of olive oil. Strong perfumes = fake.
- Feel: Gentle, pure, and soothing. It shouldn’t irritate your skin or eyes.
Our Savon de Marseille comes from Le Serail one of the last remaining traditional artisanal soap factories in Marseille that continues to use age-old techniques.
